From Silicon Valley we take the route straight to Santa Cruz which is probably the most famous surfer town in Northern California. It welcomes us with a mellow vibe and wherever we look there are surfboards and people in wetsuits – we totally fit here.
We continue along Monterey Bay which is lined with yummy fruit-&-veg stands until we reach the town of Monterey. Most famous for its breathtaking aquarium there is so much more to it in our opinion. Well-kept neighborhoods with amazing places to live overlooking a stunning stretch of coast with a lot of animal wildlife – the sea otter cracking something open on his belly with a stone while floating in the water has been our absolute favorite – and white beaches. At the port it is all about delicious seafood and we’re lucky to even be there for their weekly food-market with more delicious treats. We really do get why people love to live here.
Probably the most charming town in this area is Carmel-by-the-Sea and we just have to stop by again. Every street is lined with tiny cottages framed by trees and flowers with nostalgic stores that bring you back in time, make you slow down and just enjoy life.
